Nội dung của ca khúc gốc nói về tâm trạng và lời từ biệt của một người tử tù ( vì đã giết người bạn thân của mình khi phát hiện anh ta đang quan hệ với vợ mình ) đến những người thân yêu của mình trước lúc hành quyết 
Nhưng sau khi trở thành " Season in the sun " ca khúc từ một bài hát tuyệt mệnh âm u trở thành một bài hát với lời lẽ yêu đời và tươi sáng .
